Grilled Corn on the Cob

Grilled Corn on the Cob is the best way to cook this favorite Summer vegetable during this time of year. I included helpful tips and tricks for finding the best corn on the cob as well.

It’s the middle of Summer and you’re using the grill a lot instead of heating the house up. Corn on the cob is also in season and it is fun to buy at the farmers market. Good corn on the cob can also be achieved without having to soak the corn or brining it first.

Tips for buying good corn on the Cob 

Have you ever gone to look for corn at the grocery store and saw people peaking at the inside to see if the corn was good or not? Right now that is probably really frowned upon because of the pandemic and no one wants a corn on the cob with germs on it but there are other ways to tell if corn on the cob is good or not. 

Buy at farmer’s markets instead of grocery stores, guaranteed fresh. 

Look for teensy brown holes in the husk.  

Tassels – the brown stuff that sticks out at the top of the corn. If they are dark or black it’s an old ear of corn. 

Color of the husk – bright green and tightly wrapped around the husk. 

Some stores have grocery bags that allow you to peak at the kernel, then throw all any husks. 

How to Grill Corn on the Cob 

Soaking Husks (optional) Corn can be grilled with the husk on or the husk off. Place the corn with husks on in a large enough vessel to store with water. This helps prevent the husks from burning. 

Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. 

Peel back the husks and remove them. Brush the corn with oil and place on the grill.

Let the corn on the cob cook for 10 minutes and turning the corn every now and then so that all sides get cooked. 

Spread butter or spritz the corn with butter spray. 

How to keep grilled corn WW friendly

Corn on the cob can get pretty high in points fast depending on how much butter you spread on the corn. To make grilled corn on the cob WW friendly spray the corn with cooking spray and use butter spray to spritz on the corn. After 6 sprays the butter spray becomes 1 point.

  • 4 ears of corn
  • oil for brushing
  • salt and pepper

Instructions
